Program features and benefits

Our nursing program classes are primarily in the East Campus (building SN), which is home to multiple practice skills and simulation labs. These labs are designed to help you learn and grow as a student, while exposing you to real-world scenarios that will build your nursing skills.

In addition to our excellent, caring instructors and state-of-the-art instruction, as well as our affordable and highly respected degrees, students benefit from our simulation lab features, and the on-the-job experience you will gain through your required clinical rotations. See below for details.

Simulation Lab Features

Our simulation labs become the "clinical classroom" where you will develop the affective and psychomotor skills necessary for safe, high quality, direct patient care. By using a simulation lab, you gain clinical exposure opportunities and learn evidence-based techniques in a risk-free environment.

In addition to simulation labs, our East Campus features a computer lab and lab office, providing resources and reference material for you and for faculty. Our faculty use best-practice guidelines to plan, implement and evaluate simulation scenarios, experiences and instruction. You may see any of the following used in your classroom:

  • Different types of patient simulators,
  • Computer simulations,
  • Biomedical equipment,
  • SimMan®, SimBaby® and Noelle® human simulators

Our goal is to prepare you be the best nurse you can be. We will help you in your transition from student to professional, with proven classroom methods that encourage your independence and growing confidence while maintaining your safety.

Clinical Facilities Sites and Experiences

To provide you with a high-quality learning experience, we use most of the major health systems and clinical agencies in Southeast Michigan. We strive to give you exposure to a variety of clinical sites and situations.

Because clinical experiences are a required and highly valuable part of your nursing studies, our clinical guidelines are as follows:

  • We strive to limit your drive time to locations within a 60-minute drive from the main campus.
  • You will need to be available during the semester for clinicals at times that work with our clinical partner sites, and that prepare you for real-world work in the field. Clinical placements might be assigned any day of the week, including weekends, and may run any time of day from 6 a.m. through midnight for each semester when you have clinicals. You will be notified of your specific hours and placement when the time comes.
  • Our faculty and administrators will help to place you in a clinical site. Our current sites are listed below.
